How Keratin works
All about Keratin. Keratin smooths cells that overlap to form hair strands, which means more manageable hair and less frizz. This creates hair that dries with little frizz and has a glossy, healthy look. Keratin can also reduce the look of split ends by temporarily bonding the hair back together.
A keratin treatment is a chemical process, and results can last up to six months.
Keratin treatments dive into the hair follicle and inject porous areas with keratin, an essential hair protein.
Keratin is a naturally occurring in your hair, and is a strong, protective protein that coats more fragile cells. In your hair, it’s largely responsible for preventing breakage, frizz, and heat damage. Keratin can be found in your skin, hair, and nails.
However, the protective keratin in your hair can become damaged or depleted if you’re prone to overstyling your hair, or constantly applying heat or chemicals to it.
What does hair look like after keratin treatment?
This treatment results in silky smooth hair which gradually fades out after a few months. A Keratin treatment is unlike the straightening/rebonding process.
Does keratin permanently change hair?
Your hair will not be flattened out completely, or devoid of any volume, nor will it make your roots grow in curly and your ends sleek.
Keratin is also commonly found in styling products to help strengthen hair.
Traditional treatments that involve keratin aim to straighten the hair and contains a formaldehyde-releasing agent. Our stylists will saturate your hair with the keratin solution for a period of time. This coats your hair cuticle, and creates a barrier. Then it gets blow-dried or flat-ironed. The entire process will straighten out your hair texture, which will in turn completely eliminate frizz for anywhere up to three months.
